How You Can Use Post URL's To Improve Blogspot SEO

Strictly speaking, Blogspot doesn't allow a user to manage the outcome of URL addresses made after a post; an URL is created automatically relevant to the post title. If you have ever looked at the structure of an URL in a Blogspot post, you will see that it consist's of 4 parts; domain name of blog|year the post was made|month the post was made|post title.

This structure allows each blog to have a sorting system where a visitor is able to view posts made in a certain month or year. The disadvantage of it all is that it potentially waters-down the SEO for each post. As Blogspot users, we can't really do anything about this unfortunately, or can we?

I don't know if anyone else does this, but I have two separate stages when creating a post title which I believe when implemented correctly is a great way of improving on-page SEO. Going back to Blogspot URL structure, the only part that we have influence over when creating a post is the post title. So what's the relevance of this you might ask...

Well, in the first stage of my process, I title the post how I would like the search engine to see it and how it looks as an URL address. For example, let's take the above address concerning meta tags and how they can be used to increase Blogspot SEO.

I would initially title the post 'Meta Tags Increase Blogspot SEO' which is within the 39 character (including spaces) limit imposed on the post title part of the Blogspot URL structure. It's not the worst title I have encountered, but is still unsuitable for the visitor to read as it's not really correct English and is missing a few words.

This is where the second stage comes in. I would edit the post title and in this case put something like 'How To Add Meta Tags To Increase Blogspot SEO' which is perfect English and makes alot more sense (if your struggling making a post title, you might want to read this). The title I initially created in the first stage of the process is still being used as the post URL address.

The great thing about this is that you can implement a watered-down, keyword rich version of your post title in the initial stage (39 characters including spaces), but then change it to a post title that makes sense in the second stage, boosting your on-page SEO!
